Vue depuis La Pierre Sorcière n°1 et 2. 2016

Vue depuis la Pierre Sorcière. n°1 et 2. Impression en forêt d’Ermenonville. 2016. J.Harms. 17×45,5cm. Acrylic on paper.

The “witch’s rock” is a place I often walk to in this forest. It overlooks a group of very high parasol pines. From that spot one can see the tower of the castle of Montépilloy towards the East, and the sandy hills of the famous theme park “la Mer de sable” in the North. Those of you that have been following my work for some time, know that painting nature is not what I feel most comfortable with, ergo the word”impression” in the title.

Jenny visits Le Primatice. 2016

Jenny visite Le Primatice.

On a cold sunny day, my sister Jenny and I decided to go for a stroll at the Abbaye de Chaâlis. Half hidden in the forest, what is left of the abbey still stands, as well as other historical buildings. The small chapel in this painting has beautiful murals from the Primatice.

Let it snow…

I love snowcapes. A couple years ago, I worked in a small hotel in the North country side of France. The place was magical. Not only was it built right next to a very old Church, but it had its own garden with ancient fruit trees and paved paths. These paintings are views from some of the rooms. The Hotel closed unfortunately but these views remain, I am glad I painted them.

The view from room 7 overlooks the snowy garden of the Prieuré, quiet and peaceful. A wall separates it from the street. Further up the road, behind the farm wall, the water tower.
